Short answers about CFU Book, a free options trade journal from Cash Flow University: what it costs, what you can log, how income and alerts work, and what it leaves out. CFU Book is a record keeping tool. Not financial advice. Options involve risk.
What is CFU Book?
CFU Book is a free options trade journal from Cash Flow University. You log each trade, including spreads and other multi-leg positions. It shows your P&L, your income against a goal, and the most you could lose on your open positions. It also has alerts for expiration and profit targets.
Is CFU Book free?
Yes. CFU Book is free. There is no card, no trial and no paid tier. Cash Flow University also runs a paid trade alert service at joincfu.com. You do not need it to use CFU Book.
Which options strategies can I log?
You can log eleven strategies: long call, long put, cash secured put, covered call, buy stock, PMCC, call credit spread, put credit spread, call debit spread, put debit spread and iron condor. PMCC stands for poor man's covered call. Each trade keeps its legs, with the strike, expiration, price and number of contracts for each leg.
Does CFU Book connect to my broker?
No. It does not connect to a brokerage and has no import. You log each trade yourself. CFU Book can suggest an expiration, strikes and a price from market data, and you change them to match your fill. CFU Book never places an order. It is a record keeping tool.
How does CFU Book work out my income?
Your income goal counts what you have closed, dividends included. Premium on trades that are still open shows on its own line as Premium still open. A rolled trade counts as one trade. It is finished when every leg in its chain is closed, and its result is the sum of all its legs. Results are before fees.
Which alerts does CFU Book show?
CFU Book shows an alert when an option is 7 days from expiring and a stronger one when it is 2 days or less away. It also alerts you when a credit trade reaches your profit target, which starts at 80% of max profit and which you can change, and when a ticker you hold reports earnings within 5 days. Each kind of alert and each summary email has its own switch in Profile.
Who makes CFU Book?
Cash Flow University makes CFU Book. Cash Flow University is an options trading education and community platform. Its main site is joincfu.com. CFU Book is a record keeping tool. Not financial advice. Options involve risk.
Should I use CFU Book or a spreadsheet?
A spreadsheet is flexible and can cost nothing, so it suits custom columns and your own formulas. CFU Book keeps the legs of each trade together, shows the most you could lose on your open positions and alerts you as options near expiration. It has no import, so a spreadsheet may fit better if you want to load broker data.
Can I use CFU Book on my phone?
CFU Book works on a phone and has a desktop layout for wide screens. CFU Book is a web app. Where your browser supports it, you can add it to your home screen, and it can send push notifications for expiration and profit target alerts. Alerts appear in the app. The weekly and monthly summaries arrive by email.
Can I export my data or start over?
You can export your closed trades to a CSV file from the Closed list on the Portfolio screen. Open trades are not in the file. The columns are Ticker, Strategy, Opened, Closed, Duration, P&L, Return on Risk and Rolls. Start fresh in Profile deletes all of your positions, with their legs and logged income, plus your roll history, position alerts and balance history. Your login, profile and settings stay.
